During a recent discussion with CNN‘s Chris Cuomo about new strategies to impeach President Trump, Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe used language suggestive of assassination to describe what he believes needs to happen.
Co-author of the book, To End A Presidency: The Power Of Impeachment, Tribe stated during the CNN “New Day” segment that Democrats can’t keep screaming impeachment after every little thing the president does that they don’t like.
This “boy cries wolf” approach lessens the chances that anything will actually stick, Tribe argued, adding that he doesn’t even believe that Democrats should be “rushing down the road of impeachment” in the first place.
“But [impeachment] will be available only if we don’t use it loosely, and ring the bell every time something looks amiss,” Tribe stated. “You can’t be the boy who cried wolf and have viable impeachment power. You can’t use it over and over again against the same president.”
Instead, Democrats and other Trump-haters need to hone in on precisely the subject matter they believe will take the president down, and pull the trigger – literally.
“If you’re going to shoot him, you have to shoot to kill,” Tribe stated bluntly, likening the left’s ultimate takedown of President Trump to executing him with a firearm.
“And that requires an overwhelming majority of a bipartisan kind. Otherwise, you’re just going to nick the guy, and make him feel empowered and vindicated.”
Even if it was just a metaphor, Tribe’s executory language is completely out of line, especially when made in reference to a sitting president. But rather than call Tribe out for this, Cuomo, a known Trump-hater himself, said nothing in response.
Instead, he allowed Tribe to continue his threatening diatribe, accusing the president of “cooperat[ing] with Moscow in order to win the presidency.”
“That may or may not qualify as an ordinary federal crime, but it’s certainly an impeachable offense,” Tribe stated to Cuomo.
Cuomo is the same fake news hack who back in 2016 declared to CNN viewers that reading Wikileaks information publicly is “illegal.”
But it’s somehow okay in Cuomo’s mind to make veiled assassination threats against a sitting president on cable television while ruminating over strategies to disrupt our representative democracy.
The country remains roughly split in is support for President Trump, with nearly half of all registered voters in a new poll by NPR, PBS, and Marist indicating that they would “definitely” vote against a congressional candidate who ran on impeaching the president.
While about 42 percent of registered voters in America indicated that they would definitely vote for a candidate who promised to impeach the president, many of them would likely oppose the assassination rhetoric spewed by Tribe on CNN.
This is perhaps why CNN‘s ratings have plummeted below those of children’s cable television network Nickelodeon, as well as cable home improvement network Home and Garden Television (HGTV).
“Last week, more Americans tuned in to watch re-runs of ‘Yogi Bear,’ ‘Full House,’ and ‘Friends’ on Nick At Nite than to watch Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon’s shows on CNN,” explains a report by The Federalist.
“On July 4 (of 2017), CNN published a fake quote from Abraham Lincoln. On Thursday morning, the network falsely claimed German Prime Minister Angela Merkel had chosen the location of the G20 summit to sabotage Trump,” the reports adds, highlighting a sampling of instances where CNN blatantly televised or published fake news to make the president look bad.
